I³S, the Innovation Union Information and Intelligence System, is the European Commission platform for all Innovation Union stakeholders. Its principal aim is to ensure that all stakeholders are well informed on the implementation of the Innovation Union . It provides easy access to up to date and comprehensive and comparable information on the nature and implementation of all 34 of the Innovation Union Commitments presented in the Commission's Innovation Union communication of October 2010.

Complementing this information, the system provides more detailed background intelligence information relating to each commitment. This facilitates further exploration of the key issues addressed, and provides additional supporting data and analytical perspectives.

At the core of the I³S is a searchable repository of detailed information on each of the 34 Commitments. For each of these, a dedicated section of this site sets out:

• the key dimensions of challenges faced
• the objectives in tackling these challenges
• the approach planned to meet these challenges
• key milestones along the way are presented, highlighting the achievements made and specific events, publications and other activities planned.

Established under Commitment 24-25 the European Commission Smart Specialisation (S³) Platform aims at assisting regions and Member States to develop, implement and review regional smart specialisation strategies, helping to concentrate limited human and financial resources on the most promising areas of comparative advantage.
